Want to make the most of Books & Networking? Here are some hints and tips to help you - some of these may be obvious, some will be a reminder, and others will be new!
Meetings will be small groups - however we recommend bringing extra business cards - someone at the meeting may have a contact who could either help you, or who you could help, so they can take extra business cards to pass on.
Don't be! These are small groups, and you are among friends!
Chances are you are not the only person nervous about networking either.
If you have questions, need help, etc. speak to the event organiser - they are there to help you!
Whether you don't know what something means, you need advice or there is something you need help with, don't be afraid to ask questions at the meeting.
Basic refreshments (e.g. tea, coffee and water) will be available at most of our meetings - although please check the event page for further info.
Please speak to the event organiser if you have any dietary requirements.
You don't need to bring the book you are currently reading with you.
Some people find it helpful and easier to have the book with them while talking about it.
Don't worry! You are still welcome to attend - perhaps you could talk about the last book you read, or ask for a recommendation!
If travelling is an issue (e.g. you are travelling from outside Aberdeen), you could car share with other people who are attending!
Events are normally advertised a few months beforehand - so plenty of opportunity to get the days in your diary.
If you have booked to attend, remember to add the event to your diary so you remember!
Try to avoid cancelling if possible - spaces for events are limited! Plus refreshments, parking, etc. may already be arranged for you.
If you can no longer attend, you are welcome to send a substitute - either from your business or a contact.
Unfortunately tickets are not refundable.
As fairly new events, an exciting part of Books & Networking is that the meetings are what the people who attend make them.
If there's anything you'd like to see at future meetings, let us know!
Don't just walk away with a stack of business cards - this is a great opportunity to get to know other businesses and the people behind them.
Its easy to say we'll do something and forget, or read a book and place it back on the bookcase. Follow up after the meeting, carry out the goals from the books you have read, and do the stuff you said you'll do!
Whether you read business, personal development, specific books for your sector or other non-fiction - if they help your work or business they are all welcome to be discussed at our events and group.
During the pandemic, we followed all COVID-19 and social distancing measures.
Remember to follow up with any new contacts you meet - for example send them an e-mail after the meeting and connect on LinkedIn.
